About the University of Queensland Graduate Scholarships (UQGSS) opportunities 2025

The University of Queensland Graduate Scholarships (UQGSS) for the academic year 2025 will soon be open for application. To avoid last-minute rush, it's advisable to start preparing your documents early. The scholarship applications will be accepted from Monday, 1st April 2024. However, admissions into research degree programs are open throughout the year.

The UQGSS program is a prestigious scholarship award program offered by the University of Queensland to eligible international students who have achieved academic excellence and are interested in research opportunities in the institution. These fully-funded scholarships are available for Higher Degree Studies (MSc/PhD) and are open to all study areas.

Recipients of the UQGSS scholarship will be awarded either an Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship or a UQ-funded scholarship via a competitive process. Both scholarships cover full tuition fees, a living allowance, and international student health coverage to study in Australia. The UQGSS scholarships have no specific deadline for applications, as applications are accepted all throughout the year in rounds. The 2024/2025 intake rounds are now open.

    Eligibility criteria for the UQGSS scholarships

     Scholarships to study at the University of Queensland are very competitive. To be eligible for the UQGSS scholarships, the applicant must be;
    1. be nominated by an enrolling school or institute at UQ
    2. be assessed by the Graduate School as meeting all conditions for admission to the higher degree by research program.
    3. not be receiving a living allowance award, or scholarship providing a benefit greater than 75% of the RTP Scholarship living allowance rate to undertake the higher degree by research program.

    For research degree scholarship applications at the University of Queensland, there is no separate application for scholarships and degree candidature applications.      The very first step is to: 
    1. check your eligibility for the University of Queensland PhD / MPhil degree program
    2. Make sure to contact or Identify a researcher with relevant expertise and get their agreement to support your project. See the list of Queensland University Researcher profiles
    3. prepare your documentation
    4. Submit your application online.
    When you apply, please ensure that under the scholarships and collaborative study section (in the application form) you:
    • Select 'I would like to be considered for a UQ scholarship to cover a living allowance stipend and tuition fee expenses.

    Selection criteria for the  UQGSS scholarship

    Recipients for the  UQGSS scholarships are assessed and selected based on the applicant's potential which includes: 
    • academic performance, 
    • evidence of research capability, 
    • quality of research project
    Other assessment criteria include: 
    • Quality of the research and the availability of resources to support such projects, 
    • the quality of the student's advisory team
