Fully funded Graduate Research Scholarships 2025 At Canberra 

This prestigious scholarship opportunity is offered by a leading Australian university to support outstanding doctoral candidates from diverse academic backgrounds. The University Research Scholarships are designed to attract high-achieving individuals, including First-Class Honours and Master by Coursework graduates, as well as Indigenous Australian researchers and candidates approved under the National Industry PhD Program.

The scholarships are awarded through a competitive, merit-based process and are available for current and prospective PhD candidates. Successful applicants will benefit from generous funding to support their living and research expenses, ensuring they can focus fully on achieving research excellence

 Scholarship Overview

  • Scholarship type: Full tuition fee cover

  • Stipend value: Living allowance of $37,000 per year (pro-rata), indexed annually. Includes paid sick, maternity, and parenting leave.

  • Other supports: Relocation allowance (subject to university policy)

  • Health insurance: Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for international students

  • Study Level: PhD (Doctoral Research)

  • Study Course: Open to all study areas

  • Citizen type: Domestic and International students

  • Number of positions: Multiple; at least 20% to First-Class Honours graduates and 20% to Master by Coursework graduates (≥80% result)

  • Duration: Up to 4 years

  • Deadline: Varies by institution; refer to the specific university’s HDR deadlines (generally between August–October annually)

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled PhD candidates who have successfully achieved Confirmation of Candidature and have completed less than two years (EFT) of their program at the start of the semester, or

  • Be new PhD applicants approved for admission under the National Industry PhD Program – Industry Linked stream, or

  • Be Indigenous Australian applicants approved for PhD admission

  • Additional preference will be given to applicants who:

    • Have achieved First-Class Honours

    • Have completed a Masters by Coursework with a result of at least 80%

Eligible Countries: All nationalities are eligible
Eligible course or study program: Any PhD research program of choice

Selection Criteria 

Scholarship applications will be assessed through a multi-stage evaluation process:

  1. Eligibility and Completion Review

    • Assessed for completion and compliance with PhD admission requirements

  2. Academic Ranking by Faculties

    • Faculties assess and rank applicants based on:

      • Academic qualifications (Honours, Masters)

      • Strategic alignment with faculty research strengths

      • Research proposal quality

      • Prior research experience

  3. University Research Scholarship Committee Review

    • Final allocation is based on an Order of Merit compiled from faculty rankings
