Fully Funded Australia Awards Scholarships 

This scholarship opportunity is being sponsored by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Government of Australia, to support students from developing countries particularly those in the Indo-Pacific region to undertake full-time undergraduate or postgraduate study at participating Australian universities and Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutions.

Australia Awards Scholarships are prestigious, long-term development awards designed to equip future leaders with the skills and knowledge needed to drive sustainable development in their home countries. The program supports study across a wide range of priority development areas aligned with Australia’s bilateral and regional agreements.

Scholarships Overview 

  • Scholarship type: Full tuition fee cover
  • Stipend value: Contribution to Living Expenses (CLE)  a fortnightly allowance paid at a rate determined by DFAT
  • Other supports:
• Return air travel  single return economy class airfare to and from Australia via the most direct route
• Establishment allowance one-off payment to assist with accommodation, textbooks, and study materials
• Introductory Academic Program (IAP) compulsory orientation program before academic studies begin
• Supplementary academic support if required
• Fieldwork support (for eligible research students)  one return economy airfare for compulsory fieldwork
  • Health insurance: Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of the award (for award holder only)
  • English support: Pre-course English (PCE) fees where required (in-country and/or in Australia)
  • Study Level: Undergraduate/Postgraduate (including Masters by coursework and research programs where applicable)
  • Study Course: Open to priority development-related fields as determined by participating countries
  • Citizen type: Citizens of participating developing countries (primarily Indo-Pacific region)
  • Number of positions: Varies by country (allocated annually)
  • Duration: Minimum period necessary to complete the academic program, including preparatory training
  • Deadline: 30 April 2026

Eligibility Criteria

• Be a citizen of a participating country (as listed on the official website)
• Meet the specific eligibility requirements of their home country
• Satisfy the admission requirements of the participating Australian institution
• Not hold Australian citizenship or permanent residency
• Sign a contract agreeing to comply with the scholarship conditions

Award Conditions

Applicants who accept an Australia Awards Scholarship must sign a contract with the Commonwealth of Australia agreeing to comply with the scholarship conditions.

Scholars are required to leave Australia for a minimum of two years after completing their scholarship. Failure to do so will result in the scholar incurring a debt for the total accrued cost of their scholarship.

Eligible course or study program: Programs aligned with the development priorities of the applicant’s home country

Selection Criteria

The selection process is competitive and merit-based. Selection criteria may include:

• Potential to contribute to the development of the applicant’s home country
• Relevance of the chosen program to the country’s priority development areas
• Commitment to returning home and contributing to national development
• Communication skills and ability to meet English language requirements
