Rmit University Vice-Chancellor’s PhD Scholarship (VCPS) 2026
This prestigious scholarship opportunity is being offered by
RMIT University to support exceptional PhD research students from around the world to study at one of Australia’s leading innovation and technology universities.
The opportunity is open to both domestic and international students who demonstrate academic excellence and strong research potential to pursue a Doctoral degree (PhD) by research at RMIT University.
While the main round opens from 1 June 2025, applicants may also apply outside the central timeline for research projects funded through industry sponsorships, school or college-based scholarships, or other external funding guarantees.
Scholarship Overview
- Scholarship type: Fully Funded
- Stipend value: Living allowance (aligned with the Australian Government RTP rate, approx. AUD $34,000 per annum, tax-free; indexed annually)
- Other supports:
Relocation allowance (subject to approval)
- Tuition fee offset for international students
- Paid sick, maternity, and parental leave in line with RMIT’s graduate research policies
- Health insurance: Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for international students
- Study Level: PhD by Research
- Study Course: Open to all disciplines offered at RMIT University
- Citizen type: Domestic and International students
- Number of positions: Competitive (limited number each year)
- Duration: Up to 4 years for a PhD

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

Meet RMIT’s PhD admission requirements

Be applying for a Doctoral research degree (PhD)

Not already be enrolled in a PhD at RMIT, unless applying for a transfer with exceptional academic merit
-
Have a First-Class Honours or equivalent academic qualification

Demonstrate strong research capability and academic excellence

Provide evidence of support from a proposed RMIT senior supervisor (this must be uploaded with the application)
Eligible Countries: Open to all nationalities
Eligible Course/Program: Any PhD program at RMIT
Selection Criteria
The selection process is competitive and merit-based, considering the following:

Academic performance in previous degree(s)

Research potential and alignment with RMIT’s strategic areas

Quality and relevance of the research proposal

Professional or research experience

Evidence of research skills (e.g., publications, presentations)

Support and endorsement from an RMIT senior supervisor
