Victoria University International Research Scholarships 2025–2026

Victoria University (VU) in Melbourne, Australia, invites applications for its highly competitive research scholarships designed to support exceptional international students pursuing higher degrees by research.

These scholarships aim to encourage high-quality research and academic excellence across all fields of study, with generous financial support for international applicants. Opportunities are available for doctoral candidates commencing a research program at Victoria University. Some additional benefits are also available through the VU Global Research Scholarship.

 Scholarship Overview

Scholarship type:

  • RTP Fee Offset Scholarship (full tuition fee waiver)

  • RTP Stipend Scholarship  International

Stipend value:

  • Living allowance of $35,006 per year (2025 rate)

  • Indexed annually and includes limited paid sick, maternity, and parental leave

Other supports:

  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) – single cover for international students

Study Level:

  • PhD (Doctor of Philosophy)

Study Course:

  • Open to all research fields

Citizen Type:

  • International students (non-Australian, non-New Zealand citizens or PR)

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible for the RTP Stipend Scholarship – International, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand
  • Meet VU’s academic entrance requirements for a research degree
  • Meet English language proficiency requirements
  • Have achieved an H1 average (above 80% on VU scale) in the final or honours year
  • Be commencing a full-time PhD program
  • Submit a well-developed Research Focus Outline (RFO)

Selection Criteria

Selection is highly competitive and based on:

  • Academic merit (grades, honors performance, final year results)

  • Research potential as evidenced by your proposed Research Focus Outline

  • Relevance of academic background to chosen field

  • Originality and feasibility of research proposal

  • Publications, conference presentations, or relevant research outputs

  • Priority will be given to:

    • Applicants who have not previously held a PhD

    • Applicants who have not held IPRS, VUIPRS, or OPRS scholarships (unless for a Master’s of Research degree)

  3. Contact the principal supervisor of your selected RFO

  4. Review the forthcoming Application Guide for Graduate Research Stipend Scholarships

  5. Visit the Apply for Graduate Research page on VU's website

  6. Submit your application, including:

    • Course application

    • Scholarship application

    • Supporting documentation

    • Use relevant course code, institute, FoR code, and RFO number
