The University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, is offering fully funded Graduate Scholarships to support outstanding international students from around the globe in pursuing a Master’s by Research or Doctoral (PhD) degree at one of Australia’s most prestigious universities.

These scholarships are designed to attract high-achieving candidates with exceptional academic records, research potential, and leadership qualities. With comprehensive funding that covers tuition, living costs, and health insurance, the UNSW Graduate Scholarships enable talented individuals to focus on advancing their academic and professional goals without financial burden.

 Scholarship Overview

  • Scholarship type: Full tuition fee cover
  • Stipend value: Living allowance of $38,438 per year (2025 rate), indexed annually, and includes limited paid sick, maternity, and parental leave.

  • Other supports:

    • Relocation allowance (varies depending on scholarship type and eligibility)

    • Single Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the full program duration

  • Study Level: Masters by Research / Master of Philosophy / Doctoral (PhD)

  • Study Course: Open to all study areas

  • Citizen type: International students

  • Number of positions: Competitive and limited (includes multiple scholarship schemes: RTPI, UIPA, and TFS)

  • Duration: Up to 2 years for Masters by Research, up to 3.5 years for PhD

  • Deadline: 5 September 2025 (deadlines may vary for some programs)

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible for these scholarships, applicants must:

  • Be an international student from any country.

  • Have completed an undergraduate degree and meet the academic requirements for admission into a UNSW Higher Degree Research (HDR) program.

  • Meet UNSW’s minimum English language requirements (TOEFL myBest scores are not accepted).

  • Not be receiving equivalent financial support from another source for their HDR studies.

  • Comply with UNSW’s Admission to Higher Degree Research Programs Procedure and HDR Scholarships Procedure.

Selection Criteria 

Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis, taking into account:

  • Academic excellence in previous studies (grades, rankings, awards).

  • Demonstrated research potential in the chosen field of study.

  • Relevance of the proposed program to prior academic background.

  • Professional achievements and relevant work experience.

  • Quality of research proposal or plan.

  • Strong recommendations from academic referees.

  • Published works or other evidence of research skills.

How to Apply

  1. Find a Supervisor: Contact a potential academic supervisor in your field at UNSW and secure their agreement to support your application.

  2. Prepare Documents:

    • Updated CV or resume

    • Academic transcripts (certified digital copies)

    • Research proposal or plan

    • Proof of English language proficiency

    • Copy of valid passport

  3. Submit Application Online: Apply via the UNSW HDR online application portal and indicate your interest in being considered for a scholarship.

  4. Select Scholarship Round: Choose the scholarship round that corresponds to your desired term start date.
