University of Queensland Graduate School Scholarships (UQGSS) / Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarships 2026

The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia, offers the Graduate School Scholarships (UQGSS), including the Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarships, to support outstanding and high-achieving research students from around the world. These scholarships provide financial support and resources to enable students to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Philosophy (MPhil), or a research-focused Professional Doctorate degree at one of Australia’s leading research-intensive universities.

The opportunity is therefore open to both domestic and international students who demonstrate academic excellence, strong research potential, and commitment to contributing innovative research in their chosen field at UQ.

 Scholarship Overview

  • Scholarship Type: Full tuition fee coverage + Living stipend
  • Stipend Value: $37,500 per year (tax-free, 2026 rate), indexed annually
  • Other Supports:

    • Single Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for international students
  • Study Level: PhD, Master of Philosophy, or research-focused Professional Doctorate
  • Study Course: Open to all study areas
  • Citizen Type: Domestic & International students
  • Number of Positions: Varies
  • Duration: Up to 3.5 years with the possibility of one extension (subject to UQ and RTP policy)
  • Deadline: 30 January 2026

Eligibility Criteria 

To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be nominated by an enrolling UQ school or research institute

  • Meet all admission requirements for a Higher Degree by Research program at UQ

  • Not be receiving another living allowance scholarship greater than 75% of the RTP stipend rate

Eligible Countries: Open to all nationalities
Eligible Study Programs: Any Higher Degree by Research program at UQ

Selection Criteria 

The selection for this scholarship is merit-based and will be assessed using the UQ Scholarship Selection Rubric, with consideration for:

  • Academic excellence and performance in previous studies

  • Demonstrated research capability and potential

  • Quality, feasibility, and impact of the proposed research project

  • Strength of the proposed research environment and available resources

  • Research supervisory team quality, track record, and expertise alignment

How to Apply

Before You Apply:

  1. Confirm your eligibility for a PhD or MPhil at UQ

  2. Identify a suitable supervisor aligned with your research interest

  3. Prepare all supporting documentation

When Applying:
To apply for this scholarship, submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for your preferred program. There is no separate application for the scholarship.
In your EOI Scholarship/Sponsorship section, complete as follows:

  • “Are you applying for an advertised project?” — Select No

  • “Are you applying for or have you been awarded a non-UQ scholarship?” — Select No

  • Domestic students should indicate if they wish to be considered for both tuition and stipend scholarships

If your EOI is approved and supported by a supervisor, you will be invited to submit the final application.
