University Of Flinders PhD Industry Ready Internship Scholarship (PIRIS) 2026

This scholarship opportunity is being sponsored by Flinders University to support PhD students in gaining industry experience through structured research internships during their doctoral studies.

The purpose of the scholarship is to facilitate PhD candidates to undertake eligible research internships in collaboration with industry partners while being supervised by their Principal Supervisor. This helps students build practical skills and strengthen industry connections alongside their academic research.

The opportunity is open to both domestic and international students currently enrolled in a PhD program at Flinders University.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants are expected to:

  • be currently enrolled in a PhD at Flinders University;
  • have secured a written internship agreement with an eligible research end-user within the first 18 months of candidature (pro-rata for part-time students);
  • be making satisfactory academic progress;
  • not have previously received funding for an internship;
  • not hold a PhD scholarship that already includes an internship component;

International students must also be able to complete both their internship and PhD within their visa duration.

Eligible Countries: All nationalities are eligible for this scholarship
Eligible course or study program: Any eligible PhD research program with an approved industry internship

Selection Criteria

The selection criteria for this scholarship will be based on eligibility compliance and include assessment of:

  • The student’s academic progress and candidature status
  • The quality and relevance of the proposed internship
  • The suitability of the research end-user (industry partner)
  • Alignment of the internship with the student’s research area
  • Compliance with Research Training Program (RTP) internship requirements

Internships must:

  • be formally agreed in writing within 18 months of candidature start;
  • involve research and development activities related to the student’s field;
  • last a minimum of 3 months (at least 60 FTE days);

Note: Students already receiving payment from the industry partner are not eligible.
