La Trobe University offers the Dennis McDermott Research Scholarships to support outstanding Australian and Australian Permanent Resident students pursuing a research-based Masters or PhD. These scholarships provide financial support in conjunction with a Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship to enable students to focus on high-quality research and develop their professional skills.

Will undertake their research at a La Trobe University campus
For PhD: Have completed a Masters by Research or equivalent significant research with outcomes such as a thesis or peer-reviewed publication, assessed at La Trobe standard of 75 or above
For Masters by Research: Have achieved a first-class honours degree at an Australian university or equivalent from a recognized overseas institution
Selection Criteria

Research outputs, including publications or prior thesis work
Endorsements or recommendations from academic supervisors
Develop a research proposal or select a Graduate Research project (where available).

After receiving in-principle agreement for supervision:
Complete your application, selecting the scholarship “Graduate Research - Specialist Research Scholarship”
Submit the application for consideration.
Current La Trobe graduate research students must start a new application and select “Graduate Research - Scholarship Only” to apply for the scholarship.
