University of Adelaide Research Scholarships (UARS) 2025-2026

The University of Adelaide Research Scholarships (UARS) are prestigious awards provided by the University of Adelaide to support exceptional international students who wish to pursue postgraduate research degrees in Australia. These scholarships aim to attract high-calibre graduates from all over the world and support them to undertake a Masters or PhD by research across all faculties at the University of Adelaide.

This opportunity is open to future and commencing international students who demonstrate academic excellence, research potential, and leadership capability. Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis and support students in all faculties across the university.

 Scholarship 

Scholarship type: Full tuition fee waiver

• Stipend value: AUD $35,300 per annum (2025 rate, tax-free)

• Other supports:

  • Relocation allowance (amount varies)

  • Limited paid sick, maternity, and parenting leave

• Health insurance: Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for international students

• Study Level: Masters / PhD by Research

• Study Course: Open to all academic disciplines across all faculties

• Citizen type: International students only

• Number of positions: Varies by round and faculty availability

• Duration:

  • Up to 2 years for a Masters by Research

  • Up to 3.5 years for a PhD 

• Application Deadlines

  • Domestic Students:

    • Closing Date: 5 June 2025

  • International Students:

    • Opening Date: 30 June 2025

    • Closing Date: 14 November 2025

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible for the UARS, applicants must:

• Be an international student who is eligible to apply for a visa to study in Australia.

• Have completed at least the equivalent of an Australian First-Class Honours degree (this includes a significant research component).

• Meet the English language proficiency requirements of the University.

• Not be receiving another award from the Australian Government intended to cover tuition fees.

• Meet the entry requirements for a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program at the University of Adelaide.

• Apply for admission and scholarship together using the designated online application portal.

Selection Criteria 

Selection is highly competitive and merit-based, using the following considerations:

• Academic excellence in your previous degree program

• Relevance and strength of your proposed research project

• Research experience, publications, or outputs (where applicable)

• Quality of research proposal and alignment with University research strengths

• Relevant work experience or professional background

• Letters of recommendation or academic referee reports

• Evidence of leadership, motivation, and potential for success in research

How to Apply 

1. Prepare Your Documents

   • Certified academic transcripts and graduation certificates

   • English language test results (IELTS, TOEFL, etc.)

   • Curriculum Vitae (CV)

   • Research proposal

   • Publications list (if any)

   • Academic referee reports

2. Apply Online

   • Use the Online Application Form to submit your application for both admission and scholarship.

   • Ensure that all supporting documents are uploaded before the closing date.

3. Find a Supervisor (Highly Recommended)

   • It is advisable to contact a potential supervisor at the University and discuss your research proposal before submitting your application. A letter of supervisor support can strengthen your application.

4. Check Deadlines

• Visit the International Scholarship Rounds page for the latest application deadlines. Deadlines usually fall around mid-September each year.
