ECU Higher Degree by Research Scholarships 2025-2026

This scholarship opportunity is being sponsored by Edith Cowan University (ECU) to support outstanding postgraduate students pursuing research degrees at the university. The scholarships aim to promote high-quality research training and performance through financial support and academic merit recognition.

The opportunity is open to both domestic and international students interested in undertaking a Masters by Research or a PhD at ECU. Successful candidates may be awarded either the ECU Higher Degree by Research Scholarship or the Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend Scholarship.

 Scholarship  Overview

Scholarship type: Full tuition fee sponsorship
Stipend value: $35,000 per year, paid fortnightly via electronic funds transfer (may be indexed annually)

  • Relocation allowance for eligible domestic students

  • Partial reimbursement of Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for eligible international students

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Have received an offer of admission into a PhD, Integrated PhD, or Masters by Research course at ECU

  • Meet the academic merit and research potential standards as assessed by ECU’s Graduate Research School

Special Notes:

  • Applicants with pending course admission before the scholarship deadline may be considered conditionally

  • Applicants must have principal supervisor endorsement for their proposed research project

Ineligibility conditions include:

  • Receiving an AusAID or Australia Award scholarship within the past two years

  • Failing to secure supervisor endorsement

  • PhD commencement date beyond 01 December 2025

  • Masters by Research commencement after Semester 2, 2025

  • Receiving an income >75% of the RTP base stipend ($35,000) for living costs related to HDR

Selection Criteria 

The selection process is merit-based and competitive. Assessment will include:

  • Academic performance in previous degrees

  • Research experience and potential
