Curtin University HDR Scholarships, Awards and Grants 2025

Curtin University, one of Australia’s leading institutions for innovation and research, offers a range of Higher Degree by Research (HDR) scholarships to support exceptional domestic and international students undertaking Masters or PhD by research programs. These scholarships aim to ease the financial burden of research study and promote excellence across various disciplines.

The scholarships include government-funded options such as the Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) and Curtin University-administered schemes, which may combine tuition fee waivers, stipends, allowances, and other supports.  Scholarship Overview

Scholarship Type: 

• Full or partial tuition fee offset

• Stipend for living costs (via RTP or Curtin-funded options)

Stipend Value:

• RTP Stipend of AUD $32,250 per annum 

Other Supports:

• Relocation allowance for eligible students

• Completion Scholarship for extended support toward end of degree

• RTP Allowance to cover ancillary research expenses

• Curtin internal funding may also support research materials, travel, or thesis publication costs

Health Insurance:

• Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for international students

• Masters by Research / PhD

Study Course:

• Open to all HDR-eligible fields at Curtin University

• Open to domestic and international students

Number of Positions:

• Multiple positions awarded annually, depending on faculty and funding availability

Duration:

• Up to 2 years for Masters by Research

• Up to 3.5–4 years for Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Deadline:

• RTP Round opens July 2025

• Close 31 August 2025

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible, applicants must:

• Have applied for or be currently enrolled in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program at Curtin University

• Meet Curtin’s academic entry requirements for a research degree

• Demonstrate research potential via academic record, publications, or professional experience

• Be eligible for RTP if applying through government-funded route (additional citizenship/residency rules apply)

Eligible Countries:

• All nationalities welcome (Note: domestic and international students may be assessed separately for RTP eligibility)

Eligible Courses:

• Any research program at Curtin University

Selection Criteria 

Selection is based on academic and research merit, including:

• Previous academic results, honors classifications, or GPA

• Research outputs such as published papers, theses, or presentations

• The alignment of research interests with faculty expertise and Curtin’s strategic areas

• Relevance of prior study or professional experience

• Quality of the research proposal

• Recommendations and referee reports

• English language proficiency (for international students)

1. Identify a supervisor and a suitable research area from the Curtin website
