Cooke and Alfred Godfrey Scholarship 2026 at the University of Sydney
This scholarship opportunity is sponsored by the University of Sydney to support exceptional postgraduate research students from across the world to undertake legal research at the Sydney Law School, one of Australia's premier law faculties.
The opportunity is open to both domestic and international students who wish to pursue a higher degree by research PhD, Master of Laws (LLM) by Research, or Master of Criminology (MCrim) by Research at the University of Sydney.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants are expected to:

Have an unconditional offer of admission or be currently enrolled full-time in one of the following programs at the University of Sydney Law School:

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
-
Master of Laws (LLM) by Research
-
Master of Criminology (MCrim) by Research
-
Be willing to conduct research in the discipline of law

Hold at least one of the following academic qualifications:

An Honours degree (First or Second Class Upper) in Law or equivalent

A Master’s degree by Research in Law
-
A Master’s degree by Coursework with High Distinction or Distinction, including a research component worth at least 25% of full-time study

A Law degree combined with professional or research experience deemed equivalent to First Class Honours
Eligible Countries: All nationalities are eligible for this scholarship
Eligible Course or Study Program: Law (Research-based postgraduate programs only)

The selection criteria for this scholarship will be merit-based, with consideration given to:

Academic achievements in your previous legal studies

Research potential in your chosen field of law

Alignment of your proposed research with faculty expertise

Professional or academic experiences relevant to legal research

Progress and achievements if currently enrolled (PhD, LLM, MCrim)

Letters of recommendation or referee assessments
Note: While preference is given to commencing students, exceptional current students may also be considered.
