Southern Cross University (SCU), a leading Australian institution renowned for its research excellence, offers the Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) International Tuition Fee Offset and Stipend Scholarships. These scholarships aim to support outstanding international students pursuing higher degrees by research, such as Master's and PhD programs, at SCU's campuses in Lismore, Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast, and metropolitan locations including Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth.

Scholarship Overview

• Scholarship Type: Full tuition fee offset

• Stipend Value: Living allowance of AU$33,511 per year (2025 rate, indexed annually), paid in fortnightly instalments

• Duration:

  • Up to 2 years for a Master's by Research degree

  • Up to 3 years and 3 months for a PhD degree

• Health Insurance: Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Single Membership for international students

• Study Level: Master's by Research / PhD

• Study Course: Open to all research disciplines offered at SCU

• Citizen Type: International students only

• Number of Positions: Varies annually

• Deadline: 31 October 2025

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

• Be an international student (not an Australian or New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent resident, or holder of an Australian Permanent Humanitarian visa)

• Have applied for and met the entry requirements for a graduate research degree at Southern Cross University

• Be commencing or currently enrolled in a graduate research degree at SCU

Selection Criteria

The selection for this scholarship is merit-based and considers factors such as:

• Academic achievements in previous studies

• Research potential in the chosen field of study

• Relevance of the proposed research program to previous academic background

• Relevant professional experience

• Recommendations from academic or professional referees

• Demonstrated research skills, including publications or other scholarly activities
