University of Western Australia RTP Scholarship 2025–2026

The University of Western Australia (UWA) is inviting applications for its 2025 International Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarships for Higher Degrees by Research (HDR).

This fully funded opportunity is open to outstanding international students who have demonstrated exceptional academic and research potential and are interested in pursuing a Master's by Research or a PhD program at one of Australia’s top-ranked research universities.

The scholarship is sponsored by the Australian Government and administered by UWA to support talented researchers in gaining advanced qualifications that prepare them for careers in academia, industry, or government.   

Scholarship Overview 

  • Scholarship type: Full tuition fee cover

  • Stipend value: Living allowance of $37,000 per annum (2025 rate), indexed annually

  • Other supports: Allowances for relocation and other ancillary HDR-related costs

  • Health insurance: Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for international students

  • Study Level: Masters by Research / PhD

  • Study Course: Open to all fields of study

  • Citizen type: International students only

  • Number of positions: Competitive (number not specified)

  • Duration: Up to 2 years for a Master’s by Research and up to 4 years for a PhD

  • Deadline: 31 August 2025

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Meet the entry requirements for a Higher Degree by Research at UWA

  • Satisfy UWA’s English language requirements by the application deadline (IELTS not required in some cases check exemptions)

  • Be available to commence their studies as per the advertised start date for that round

Eligible Countries: All nationalities are eligible
Eligible Programs: Any HDR program offered at UWA

Selection Criteria 

Applications will be assessed and ranked based on:

  • Academic excellence in previous qualifications

  • Research potential, demonstrated through:

    • Relevant research experience

    • Publications and research output

    • Other academic achievements

  • Relevance of chosen program to previous academic background

  • Professional experience in a related field

  • Availability of appropriate supervision, research facilities, and funding at UWA

  1. Check your eligibility – Ensure you meet all academic and language requirements for your desired HDR program

  2. Identify potential supervisors – Search UWA’s faculty database and contact a supervisor aligned with your research interests

  3. Prepare your application materials, including academic transcripts, CV, research proposal, and referee reports

  4. Submit your application online via the UWA HDR Application Portal before the 31 August 2025 deadline

  5. Indicate that you wish to be considered for the RTP scholarship during your HDR application.
