Fully Funded University of Canberra Research Scholarships 2026
The University of Canberra (UC) is now inviting applications for its
University Research Scholarships for the 2025–2026 academic year.
These awards support Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates (PhD only) across all UC research disciplines. Highly competitive, with fewer than 10% success rate in the last round, the scholarship attracts top-tier researchers from Australia and overseas.
Scholarship Overview

Scholarship type: Tuition fee sponsorship and stipend

Stipend value: AUD $36,225 per annum (2025 rate, tax-free), with back payment upon arrival for approved offshore candidates

Other supports: Access to advanced research facilities, industry-linked research opportunities, and academic mentoring

Study Level: Doctor of Philosophy (PhD – HDR)

Study Course: Open to all UC research areas (Arts, Business, Law, Education, Health, Science & Technology)

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
-
Be a domestic or international student
-
Not have previously held an Australian Government-funded HDR scholarship for more than six months
-
Hold a qualification equivalent to:
-
Australian First-Class Honours, or
-
Master’s degree with significant research component (≥25% of course, result ≥ 80%)

Be applying for or currently enrolled in a PhD at UC
Preference will be given to:
-
PhD candidates with Confirmation of Candidature and less than 2 years EFT
-
Indigenous Australian applicants
-
Candidates aligned with the National Industry PhD Program Industry Linked stream
Selection Criteria
Applications are ranked by faculties based on:

Academic merit and research performance
-
Quality and feasibility of the research proposal
-
Alignment with UC’s strategic research priorities
-
Research potential demonstrated through publications or professional research experience

Applications are assessed and ranked by faculties, then finalized by the UC Research Scholarship Committee.
