Griffith Sports Excellence Scholarships 2026
This scholarship opportunity is being sponsored by Griffith University to support elite athletes who wish to pursue higher education while continuing to compete at a high level in their sport. It is designed for student-athletes with strong academic potential who want to balance sporting excellence with tertiary studies at one of Australia’s leading universities.
The opportunity is therefore open to both commencing and current students enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate coursework programs at Griffith University. Athletes competing at national or international levels are encouraged to apply.
Scholarships Overview

Stipend value:
- $28,000 for the Griffith Sports Excellence Full Scholarship
- $5,000 for the Griffith Sports Excellence Development Scholarship
- Other supports: Membership of the Griffith Sports College, including academic and personal support for elite athletes

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants are expected to:
Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or humanitarian visa holder
Be eligible for admission into or currently enrolled in a Griffith University undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree in 2026
Compete at an elite level (nationally or internationally) in a recognized sport
Participate in a sport listed in the Australian Sports Directory or an Olympic, Paralympic, or Commonwealth Games sport
Eligible Countries: Australia (citizens and eligible residents only)
Eligible course or study program: Any undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program at Griffith University
Selection Criteria
The selection criteria for this scholarship will be merit-based and the consideration of other outstanding achievement factors such as:
Level and consistency of sporting achievements (national/international performance)
Academic readiness and ability to succeed in higher education
Strength of personal statement (career goals and ambitions)
Recommendations from coaches or referees
Supporting documentation (certificates, rankings, media recognition)
Demonstrated ability to balance academics and elite sport
