Murdoch University High Performance Sport Industry PhD Scholarship 2026
This scholarship opportunity is being sponsored by Murdoch University in partnership with the WA Institute of Sport to support outstanding research students interested in sport science and elite athlete performance. The proposed PhD research focuses on investigating the physiological, tactical, and fatigue-related determinants of performance in elite female 3x3 basketball, helping to close major research gaps in women’s high-performance sport.
The opportunity is open to both domestic and international students who wish to pursue a fully funded PhD research degree in Australia within a high-performance sporting environment. Successful candidates will work closely with coaches, athletes, and multidisciplinary practitioners while contributing to cutting-edge research in women’s basketball performance and recovery science.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants are expected to:- hold a research qualification such as Honours (Class 2A or higher), a research Master’s degree, or equivalent qualification
- demonstrate research training and academic preparation, including literature review, study design, research data collection and analysis, and academic writing skills
- show experience or strong interest in sport science, performance analysis, or a related discipline
- demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a high-performance sporting environment
- have strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with coaches, athletes, and sport practitioners
- demonstrate skills or aptitude in data collection, analysis, and interpretation in sport
- have experience, or willingness to rapidly develop competence, in technologies such as GPS/IMU systems, video analysis tools, data programming, and statistical analysis

The selection process for this scholarship will be merit-based and will consider:- Academic achievements from previous study programs
- Research training and demonstrated research potential
- Interest and background in sport science or performance analysis
- Relevant professional or industry experience
- Ability to work within elite sporting environments
- Communication and collaboration skills
- Technical and analytical skills relevant to sport performance research
- Recommendations from academic or professional referees
