Did I say free? Yes! I meant it when I say study in Australia for free. With the right qualifications, right guidelines and a bit of luck, you can study in Australia completely for free without spending even a dime. Permit me to break it down for you.

Most Universities in Australia have no application fee for international students, especially for postgraduate research students (See a list of 11 Universities in  Australia without application fees). This is a great opportunity for many international students with strong academic qualifications to apply to as many Universities as possible so as to increase their chances of securing admission and a scholarship to study in Australia. During my time, I couldn't keep count of the number of prospective supervisors and Universities I was in contact with me. The good news is, that paid! and it paid so well. 

So how can you study free in Australia as an international student?

1. Check admissions and scholarship requirements for your degree program early

To have a successful application, you might want to check the admissions and scholarship requirements for your interest program early. Most of these requirements take time to meet. It is not a one-day workday. In my case, I had already had plans for a PhD adventure while on my Master. I checked for these requirements two years ahead and start working towards them immediately. Some requirements for PhD admissions and scholarships include publications, outstanding academic achievements, strong research potential etc. You need years to prepare for this. 2. Start application preparation early and get familiar with the whole procedure 

You should equally start preparation for your application early. If you have succeeded in meeting all the above requirements, or the requirements for your degree program, the next thing you want to do is to get familiar with the whole admissions and scholarship application procedure to study abroad. This will save you a lot of time and increase your chances of success.

You equally want to check the admission and scholarship period for your degree program. Most scholarships in Australia are in rounds. You might not want to miss the deadline for your degree program or the scholarship round. Most Universities recommend international students interested to secure scholarships check scholarship rounds before submitting candidature. 

Application for most research degree programs in Australia is done by first submitting a candidature application usually via an Expression of Interest(EoI), and then applying for a scholarship with no separate application. So if you miss the scholarship deadline for your degree program, you might have to defer your study and wait for the scholarship round. Applications are usually open all year round for research degree programs in most Universities.

3. Apply for Scholarships with no application fees

So, you have checked to see that you meet all the minimum entry requirements for your degree program, all your documents are equally ready including your English Proficiency certificates(For those in need) etc.., the next step is to apply for scholarships. Australia has many Universities with no application fees for international students. Here is a list of top Universities without applications for international students to browse through.

Apply for fully funded scholarships in Universities with no application. With a fully-funded scholarship, you don't have to pay any tuition fees. Plus most fully funded scholarships in Australia especially postgraduate research scholarships cover your living expenses through fortnight stipends, they provide health covers(sometimes even for dependents), and in some cases the scholarship provides relocation allowances, travel allowances, thesis reimbursement etc,, and above applications are generally free for most postgraduate research degree programs in Australia
