The University of Melbourne is one of the leading universities in Australia, and it offers a wide range of scholarships for international students. These scholarships can help you to cover the cost of your studies, and they can also give you a valuable financial boost. Over 2300+ scholarships are currently available at Melbourne University via various funding programs for Undergraduate, Masters and PhD students.

There are 3 types of Graduate scholarships(MSc/PhD) available for international students. This include:

  1. Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships(GRS), 
  2. Melbourne Australian government research training scholarship program (RTPS) scholarships and 
  3.  the  Melbourne Research Scholarships(MRS). 
These are all fully funded scholarships, and open to any field of choice across the university. Other benefits include living support stipends:$32,400, a relocation allowance of$2,000 for students moving from States or Territories other than Victoria or $3,000 for students moving from outside Australia.

Eligibility Criteria for these scholarships

  • To be eligible for this scholarship, you must have applied for and fulfilled the entry requirements for a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne or be currently enrolled in such a program. 
  • The scholarship is open to applicants of all nationalities. Furthermore, any program of your choosing is eligible for this scholarship.

Selection criteria 

These scholarships will be awarded based on merit, which includes academic achievements such as:

- Scores and ranks from your previous study program

- Research potentials in your interested field of study

- Relevance of your chosen program to your previous study program

- Relevant professional experiences

- Recommendations from your previous referees

- Research skills demonstrated through publications and other relevant works. 

Please note that the scholarship selection committee will take into account all of the above criteria to ensure that the recipients are deserving and capable of making the most of the scholarship opportunity.

Melbourne Undergraduate Scholarships for international students(Up to 1000 slots available)

Melbourne University offers 1000 scholarships every year to exceptional international students who want to pursue their studies in Australia. The primary aim of the scholarship program is to attract and retain highly talented international students to study at Melbourne University, Australia. 

The scholarship is awarded to acknowledge and reward the outstanding academic performance of international students. Successful applicants can receive either a 100% scholarship or a 50% tuition fee remission worth $10,000. The scholarship is open to all study areas. It is available only for international students who meet the admission requirements of the university. The university automatically considers all applicants who have been admitted to any program.

Eligibility Criteria for Melbourne International Undergraduate Scholarships

To qualify for this scholarship as an international applicant, you must meet certain eligibility requirements which include:

  • be a citizen of a country other than Australia and New Zealand and not a permanent resident of Australia;
  • have received an offer for an undergraduate course at the University of Melbourne;
  • have at least a secondary school result that places you in the top 3%, such as:
  • minimum of 3 A* grades in the GCE A-Levels (with numerical grades) and more than 94% average from the 3 highest scoring A-level subjects
  • at least 97% in an approved Foundation program
  • at least a score of 43 in the International Baccalaureate (IB)
  • at least a 3.9 GPA for US High School in combination with at least SAT 1500 or ACT 31
  • at least 98% for Ontario (Canada) Secondary School Diploma/Canadian Pre-University Program
  • at least 98% for India CBSE XII, India ISC and India State Board Exam
  • not have previously undertaken any tertiary studies (excluding extension studies completed as part of a year 12 program)
