An ARC Project to conduct research on - Critical conversations: An ethnographic study of Australian organ donation - Social Sciences / Sociology, Criminology and Gender Studies
Fully-funded PhD scholarship positions available at Adelaide University for the eligible applicant to conduct research on Critical conversations: An ethnographic study of Australian organ donation. This postgraduate scholarship is funded by Adelaide University and is open for eligible international and domestic candidates with research interests in anthropology or sociology.
The research aims to identify how death, dying and organ donation are communicated and constituted in and across medical spaces and family relationships – in particular, by identifying the multiple intersections of ethnicity, religion, gender, class, age, and family hierarchies, in the context of medical technologies and clinical interactions. It hopes to advance knowledge and understanding of what people know about and how they respond to organ donation, particularly in cross-cultural contexts. The successful PhD applicant would be supported to develop their own independent research project on a subject of relevance to this study.
The scholarship will provide full tuition support for the successful applicant including living stipends. See details below

Eligibility criteria
To be eligible, interested applicants :
- must have completed and been awarded a relevant Bachelor Degree with Honours in anthropology or sociology.
- Excellent academic writing and communication skills are essential.
- Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia/international students who are accepted as candidates for a PhD degree at the University of Adelaide.
