ACU Vice Chancellor PhD Excellence Scholarship 2026

The Australian Catholic University (ACU) is offering fully funded Vice Chancellor PhD Excellence Scholarships to outstanding international candidates across the world who wish to pursue a higher degree by research (PhD) in Australia.

This prestigious scholarship opportunity is open to high-performing students who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and are looking to contribute to ACU’s world-class interdisciplinary and collaborative research culture.

The Vice Chancellor PhD Excellence Scholarship is awarded based on merit and aims to enable flourishing lives, thriving communities, and ethical futures through advanced research in a range of disciplines. 

Scholarship Overview

• Scholarship type: Full tuition fee cover
• Stipend value: Living allowance of AUD $33,511 per year (full-time) for up to 3.5 years, paid fortnightly
• Other supports: Relocation allowance of up to AUD $2,000 for international students relocating to Australia
• Health insurance: RTP Allowance to cover the cost of a single Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) policy
• Study Level: PhD (Doctor of Philosophy or Doctor of Ministry)
• Study Course: Open to specific faculties (see below)
• Citizen type: International students
• Number of positions: Not specified
• Duration: Up to 3.5 years
• Deadline: 1 October 2025

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

• Be classified as an international student for fee-paying purposes

• Be applying for or enrolled in a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Doctor of Ministry at ACU

• Be applying in any of the following faculties:

  • Education and Arts

  • Law and Business

  • Health Science

  • Theology and Philosophy

• Not currently be receiving any other ACU scholarship or award

• Meet the requirements of enrolment and academic progress as outlined in the ACU Higher Degree Research Policy and ACU’s Research Training Program Scholarship Policy

Eligible countries: All nationalities are eligible
Eligible programs: Doctor of Philosophy or Doctor of Ministry

Selection Criteria 

This scholarship is merit-based and competitive. Applications will be assessed based on:

• Exceptional academic achievements in prior studies

• Alignment of the proposed research with ACU’s research strengths

• Potential for future research excellence

• Research experience, publications, or professional achievements

• Recommendations and references from prior academic mentors

• Overall potential to contribute meaningfully to ACU’s research community

Final selection is conducted by the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Enterprise (ODVCRE) Scholarship Selection Committee.
