Several fully funded Masters and PhD scholarship positions for international students are available at Charles Darwin University via the  CDU Higher Degree by Research scholarships for international students. The CDU Higher Degree by Research scholarship is basically available via two main scholarship programs:

  1. The CDU  Research Training Scheme (URTS) Fee Offset program  and 
  2. The CDU Research Training Program(RTP) Stipend scholarships

  • 1. The Charles Darwin University  Research Training Scheme (URTS) Fee Offset program 

The CDU Research Training Scheme (URTS) Fee Offset program 2024-2025 covers full tuition fees for eligible applicants without a living stipend. If looking for living stipend support, the applicant must apply for the CDU Australian Government RTP Stipend Scholarship. The RTP stipend scholarships provide living stipend support paid every fortnight, sick leave, maternity leave, relocation allowance etc. Both scholarships can be applied together.

The CDU-URTS Fee Offset program is open to all international students interested in undertaking a full-time Masters or PhD by research. These scholarships are available within any research field of study across the University. The scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis and aim to attract international students with outstanding research potential and academic achievements. The URTS scholarships will provide a full-tuition cover for the duration of the study. Applicants can apply for  RTP stipend scholarships for living support. RTP stipends will provide living stipend support paid every fortnight, sick leave, maternity leave, relocation allowance etc.

Eligibility criteria for URTS  scholarships

To be eligible for the Charles Darwin University Research Training Scheme (URTS) Fee Offset program 2023, the applicant: 
  1. must be an overseas student intending to enrol in an accredited HDR course at an Australian Higher Education Provider (HEP).
  2.  must not be receiving income from another source to support that student’s general living costs while undertaking their course of study if that income is greater than 75% of that student’s RTP Stipend rate. 
  3.  must not be receiving an equivalent award or scholarship from the Australian Government designed to offset HDR tuition fees

How to apply(No application fees)

To study at Charles Darwin University, prospective international HDR candidates are required to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the HDR team before being invited to apply for admission and scholarships.
The EOI must include the followings:
  1. Expression of Interest (EOI) Application Form 
  2. Copies of academic transcripts and award certificates of your post-secondary qualifications (ie. Bachelor and Master degree)
  3. Curriculum vitae (CV) including details of publications
  4. A brief research proposal (1500-1700 words or 3-4 pages) on the research you would like to do, including details about specific methodological techniques
Email these to HDR Support at hdrsupport@cdu.edu.au. 

Once submitted, the applicant's EOI will be reviewed and if deemed to meet the minimum course entry requirements, the applicant is invited to submit an application.
After receiving an invitation to apply, the next step is finding a potential supervisor. The applicant will need to obtain the supervisor’s confirmation in writing. A copy of email communications will be sufficient. If successful in securing a potential supervisor, you can go ahead and submit a completed online application with the relevant scholarship. (Submission online comes has no application fee for all international students)

  • Certified copies of all post-secondary qualification documents such as transcripts of results, award certificates, grading systems, and English translations, if required
  • Proof of English language proficiency
  • Copy of passport showing personal and visa details
  • Higher Degree by Research (HDR) Application Forms (Combined)
  • Existing Research Output form (HDR37) 
  • Detailed CV / Resume with a list of publications
  • referee report forms , should be completed and sent by your referees directly to the University at Research.Degrees@cdu.edu.au
  • A well-written Statement of Purpose (Single) or Statement of Purpose (Family)
  • Supervisor’s confirmation in writing (e.g. email correspondence) etc..

2. Charles Darwin University Research Training Program(RTP) Stipend scholarships 2024/25 intake

The RTP Scholarships are Australian Government-sponsored stipend scholarships available via Charles Darwin University. These RTP  stipend scholarships provide stipend living supports to all eligible international students interested to undertake full-time MSc or PhD by research.

The RTP scholarships at Charles Darwin University are available within any research field of study across the University. The scholarships are awarded competitively and aim to attract international students with outstanding research potential and academic achievements. The RTP scholarships will provide a living stipend paid every fortnight, including a paid sick leave, relocation allowance and maternity leave.

How to apply

The application process is the same as above. Applicants can apply for both scholarships simultaneously as one is living stipend support and the other is tuition fee support. To be considered for the RTP scholarship, the EOI must be submitted before the deadline( 31 August 2024).
