 Forrest Research Foundation Scholarships

Interested in fully funded scholarships to study in Australia?  A scholarship with generous financial support to comfortably undertake your studies in Australia including opportunities for professional development, mentoring etc...? Applications for PhD scholarships commencing in 2024 will be open from September to October 2023. Up to 9 PhD scholarships are available to all eligible students from any nationality or country. Applications are encouraged from both international and local students with strong and outstanding research potential. The scholarships are open to students from all research backgrounds and fields to study in any of the five Universities in Western Australia. The scholarship has  as its main goal to attract the brightest minds around the world to undertake research in any of these top Western Australia Universities:

  • Curtin University
  • Edith Cowan University
  • Murdoch University
  • Notre Dame University (Fremantle Campus)
  • The University of Western Australia

Forrest  Scholarships will provide the successful applicants with generous financial support to comfortably undertake their studies in Australia including opportunities for professional development, mentoring etc... The successful applicant will obtain a scholarship package that includes fees, stipend, accommodation and research/travel allowance. See details of the scholarship benefits below

Scholarship Overview

  • Scholarship type: Full tuition fee cover
  • Research scholarship stipend value: $28,597 per annum
  • Accommodation allowance $21,447 
  • Travel allowance: up to $12,000, plus economy airfare to Perth for scholars and immediate dependents.
  • Health Insurance: Overseas Student Health Cover(OSHC) for international students
  • Degree Program: PhD by research
  • Number of awards: 9 open positions
  • Field of study:  All study areas
  • Citizen type: International students/ All countries eligible/Domestic students
  • Award Duration: up to 3 years for PhD. possible extension.

Eligibility Criteria

Forrest PhD Scholarships are very competitive and open to students with strong innovation, interest in research and outstanding research capabilities. To be eligible for Forrest PhD Scholarships, interested applicants are expected :
  • To must have applied for PhD enrolment as an internal student based at a Western Australian campus of one of the five specified Western Australian universities named above
  • To be eligible to enrol full-time at a Western Australian university by the date of commencement of the scholarship.
  • To have had an outstanding academic score/rank in their undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Interested applicants must have a bachelor’s degree of First Class Honours standard or equivalent, such as a GPA of at least 3.8/4.0.
  • International applicants must also meet the minimum English entry requirements
Applicants are expected to be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of their chosen field of study and excellent research and communication skills. The Proposed doctoral research topic should be innovative and exciting. More details can find in the conditions of the scholarship document.
Selection Procedure
All applications will be assessed on the basis of the applicant's academic achievements. This includes:
  1.  exceptional ability, resourcefulness and resilience
  2. originality and significance of the proposed research
  3. ability to communicate their passion for research
  4. desire to use research to have a positive impact on Western Australia and the wider world
The successful recipients will be selected by a Selection Committee

  2. Curriculum vitae
  3. Copies of all academic transcripts
  4. Contact details for four referees – three academic (required) and one personal (optional)
  5. Passport-sized photograph
