Curtin University Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarships 2025

This prestigious scholarship opportunity is provided by Curtin University under the Australian Government’s Research Training Program (RTP) to support both domestic and international students undertaking a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) in Australia.

The RTP scholarship provides financial assistance for students commencing or currently enrolled in a Master’s or Doctoral research degree at Curtin University. The program is competitive and is awarded based on academic merit, research potential, and alignment with Curtin’s strategic research priorities.

Scholarship Overview

Scholarship type: Tuition fee offset

  • Stipend value: Living allowance (indexed annually; current rate aligns with the standard RTP stipend set by the Australian Government)

  • Other supports:

    • Relocation allowance (if applicable)

    • Thesis allowance

    • Paid sick leave, maternity, and parental leave in line with Curtin policy

  • Health insurance: Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for international students

  • Study Level: Masters/PhD by Research

  • Study Course: Open to all Curtin-approved research areas

  • Citizen type: Open to both domestic and international students

  • Number of positions: Varies depending on faculty allocations and available funding

  • Duration:

    • Up to 2 years for a Master's by Research

    • Up to 3.5–4 years for a PhD

  • Deadline:

    • Expression of Interest (EOI): 1 July – 18 August 2025

    • Final admission application: No later than 31 August 2025

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be enrolled in or applying to a full-time Higher Degree by Research program at Curtin

  • Obtain an Invitation to Apply from a registered Curtin HDR supervisor

  • Demonstrate academic excellence and research potential

  • Not be receiving equivalent financial support from another source

Additional criteria for current Curtin HDR students:

  • Must not currently receive a base HDR stipend

  • Be in Good Standing academically

  • Not have exceeded 18 months of full-time HDR enrolment as of 1 July

Eligible Countries: All nationalities are welcome to apply

Eligible course or study program: Any HDR research degree program offered at Curtin University

Selection Criteria 

Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis considering the following:

  • Academic excellence and qualifications from previous degrees

  • Research potential and relevance of the proposed project

  • Alignment with Curtin’s strategic research priorities

  • Quality of the Expression of Interest and interview (if applicable)

  • Strength of referee reports

  • Prior research experience (e.g., publications, research roles)

How to apply

  1. Find a research project or supervisor

  2. Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI)

    • Between 1 July and 18 August 2025, send your EOI to a Level 1 research supervisor.

  3. Receive an Invitation to Apply

    • If shortlisted, you’ll be formally invited to apply and asked to provide referee reports.

  4. Apply for admission and the scholarship

    • Complete your HDR admission application no later than 31 August 2025, including all supporting documents.

  5. Await outcome

    • Scholarship decisions are communicated in November.
