QUT Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend Scholarship 2025-2026

The Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend Scholarship is a prestigious scholarship opportunity funded by the Australian Government, offered through the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) to support high-achieving students undertaking a higher degree by research (HDR) in Australia.

This opportunity is available to both domestic and international students commencing or currently enrolled in a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program at QUT across all faculties and research areas

Scholarship Overview

  • Scholarship type: Full tuition fee coverage via the RTP Fees Offset

  • Stipend value:

    • $33,637 per year (2025 rate, indexed annually)

    • $37,010 per year from 1 January 2026

    • Paid fortnightly to support living expenses

  • Other supports:

    • Relocation allowance of $1,520 for interstate students

    • Thesis allowance of $420 for Master’s by Research or $840 for PhD students upon submission of thesis

  • Health insurance: Eligible international students may be provided with Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)

  • Study Level: Master’s by Research / PhD

  • Study Course: Open to all study areas

  • Citizen type: Australian, New Zealand, and International students

  • Number of positions: Varies each year depending on available funding

  • Duration:

    • Up to 2 years for Master’s by Research

    • Up to 3.5–4 years for PhD

  • Deadline: 31 July 2025 (as part of QUT’s annual research scholarship round)

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Meet QUT’s admission requirements for a research degree, including English language proficiency

  • Not be receiving another scholarship that provides a living allowance for the research degree

  • If currently enrolled:

    • PhD students must have completed less than 1 year of equivalent full-time study (EFTSL)

    • Master’s students must have completed less than 6 months EFTSL

Selection Criteria 

Selection will be based on academic and research merit, including:

  • Academic performance and qualifications

  • Research capability and potential for excellence

  • Relevance and quality of proposed research project

  • Professional achievements or relevant work experience

  • Referee recommendations

  • Research output, such as publications or conference presentations
