Australian National University RTP Scholarship 2025

The Australian National University (ANU) Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship is a prestigious opportunity funded by the Commonwealth Department of Education and Training. It is designed to support outstanding domestic and international students pursuing a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) at ANU. The scholarship covers full tuition costs and provides financial support to assist with living expenses, research, and dependent child care.

ANU conducts two central scholarship rounds annually, including the RTP Scholarship, the University Research Scholarship, and other centrally managed scholarships. Scholarships are awarded based on a competitive ranking process, ensuring that top-ranked candidates receive support, subject to confirmation of a qualified supervisor, space, and resources in alignment with ANU's research strategy.

 Scholarship Overview

• Scholarship Type: Full tuition fee cover
• Stipend Value: Living allowance of $39,069 per year
• Other Supports:

• Relocation allowance for students moving to Canberra
• Thesis allowance
• Dependent child allowance (for international students only)
• Paid medical, maternity, and parental leave
• Study Level: Masters/PhD by Research
• Study Course: Open to all study areas
• Citizen Type: Domestic and International students
• Duration:
• Up to 2 years for a Master’s by Research degree

• Up to 3 years for a PhD, with a six-month extension possibility and another six-month extension under specific 

Deadline: 15 April 2026

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

• Be a domestic or international student

• Be applying for a Higher Research Degree (HDR) Master’s or PhD program at ANU

• Meet the entry requirements for their chosen program

• Meet the English language proficiency requirements of ANU

Selection Criteria 

The selection for this scholarship is based on:

• Academic excellence, including previous degree scores and ranks

• Research potential and alignment with ANU's research strategy

• Relevance of the chosen research program to the applicant’s previous studies

• Professional experience and achievements

• Research skills demonstrated through publications, presentations, and projects

• Strong recommendations from academic referees

How to Apply

2. Complete an application for a Master’s or PhD degree at ANU.

3. Ensure that you select the appropriate scholarship consideration box in the admissions application form.

4. If you are a current ANU student, complete and return the “Request for a Current ANU Student to be Considered for a HDR Scholarship” form to your Academic College.

5. Await notification regarding the scholarship decision.
