About the Position

UWA Ocean Science Scholarship 2025

The Ocean Science Scholarship is sponsored by the University of Western Australia (UWA) to support exceptional domestic and international students pursuing advanced research in ocean sciences and engineering. Offered through the renowned Oceans Graduate School, this scholarship aims to foster innovation and excellence in diverse ocean-related disciplines.

Eligible candidates will have the opportunity to undertake a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Master of Philosophy (MPhil) at UWA while benefiting from significant financial support and access to cutting-edge facilities.

Scholarship Overview

• Scholarship Type: Full financial support with a stipend
• Stipend Value: AUD $37,500 per year
• Health Insurance: Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Single Membership for international students
• Study Level: PhD or MPhil by Research

• Hydrodynamics
• Offshore Geotechnical Engineering
• Coastal Engineering
• Marine Geoscience

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

• Hold a Master’s or Honours degree with a first-class honours result (WAM of 80+ or HD).
• Be eligible to commence a PhD or MPhil program at UWA.
• Demonstrate a strong academic record and commitment to ocean-related research.
• Be from any nationality.

Eligible Courses or Study Programs: Programs in relevant ocean-related fields under UWA's Oceans Graduate School.

Selection Criteria 

Applicants will be assessed based on:

1. Academic Excellence: Strong performance in previous degrees (e.g., WAM or honours results).
2. Research Potential: Demonstrated through publications, prior research experience, or awards.
3. Alignment of Research Interests: Fit between the applicant’s research goals and UWA’s expertise in ocean sciences.
4. Professional Experience: Relevant work or field experience.
5. Referee Recommendations: Positive endorsements from academic referees.

2. Prepare Your Application:

   • For new students:
     • Go to the PhD or MPhil course tabs on UWA’s online portal.
     • Click on the Enquire Here button to create an account and submit your application.
     • Clearly state in your application that you are applying for the Ocean Science Scholarship.
   • For current students:
     • If already enrolled in a PhD/MPhil program, express your interest by contacting the Graduate Research School via askUWA.

3. Submit Your Application by February 28, 2025:

• Ensure all documents, including transcripts, referee reports, and research proposals, are included.
