UWA Bizcover Women in IT Scholarship

The BizCover Women in IT Scholarship 2024-2025 aims to address the gender gap in the IT industry by supporting and empowering female students pursuing degrees in information technology and related fields. Despite the growing need for IT professionals, only 28% of Australia's IT workforce is female, and just 1 in 4 IT graduates are women.

This scholarship celebrates the achievements of female university students and encourages them to excel in IT careers. Applicants must demonstrate their passion for the field by submitting a detailed essay about an IT-related project they’ve worked on or intend to pursue after graduation.

 Scholarship overview

  • Scholarship Type: One-time financial award
  • Stipend Value: AUD $10,000
  • Work Placement: 3-month paid work placement with BizCover (optional for the winner)
  • Study Level: Undergraduate, Diploma, and Certificate-level programs
  • Study Course: IT-related fields (see eligible programs below)
  • Citizen Type: Domestic and International students
  • Number of Positions: 1
  • Application Deadline: 11:59 pm, Friday, 28 February 2025

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

  1. Identify as female.
  2. Be enrolled in one of the following IT-related degrees or their equivalent:
    • Bachelor of Engineering
    • Bachelor of Data Science
    • Bachelor of Cyber Security
    • Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence
    • Bachelor of Business Information Systems
    • Bachelor of Computer Science and Technology
    • Bachelor of Design Computing
    • Bachelor of Advanced Computing
    • Advanced Diploma of Information Technology (Cyber Security)
    • Diploma of Information Technology (Cyber Security)
    • Certificate III in Information Technology
    • Certificate IV in Cyber Security

Selection Criteria 

Applicants will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  1. Past Involvement in IT-Related Projects

    • Demonstrated experience or enthusiasm for IT through academic or extracurricular projects.
  2. Academic Achievement

    • Strong performance in school or university-level studies.
  3. Characteristics and Communication Skills

    • Ability to convey ideas clearly during video interviews over Zoom.
  4. Essay Submission

    • A 1000-word essay answering the question:
      Describe an IT-related project you have previously been involved in, or wish to pursue after study.

  1. Prepare your 1000-word essay addressing the application question.
  2. Submit your application through the BizCover Women in IT Scholarship portal, which opens at 12:01 am, Monday, 1 January 2024.
  3. Ensure your application is submitted before 11:59 pm, Friday, 28 February 2025.
