Griffith Industry PhD Scholarship Scheme 2025
This unique scholarship opportunity is being offered by
Griffith University in collaboration with industry partners to empower future researchers with practical, industry-relevant experience while they pursue their doctoral studies in Australia.
The Griffith Industry PhD Scheme is tailored for students who are eager to tackle real-world challenges and generate research with direct industry impact. Under this scheme, candidates will undertake a PhD program while co-developing a research project with an industry partner.
The scholarship is therefore open to both domestic and international students who wish to pursue a PhD in partnership with an external organisation across various fields at Griffith University.
Scholarship Overview

Scholarship type: Fully Funded HDR Living Stipend

Stipend value: Up to $50,000 AUD per year (2026 rate), for up to 3.5 years

Other supports:

Health insurance: Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Single Membership may be covered for international students

Study Level: PhD

Study Course: Open to all eligible PhD programs

Citizen type: Open to both domestic and international students

Number of positions: Multiple positions across varying disciplines and projects

Duration: Up to 3.5 years

Deadline: Varies depending on the specific project or partnership. Early application recommended
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants are expected to:

Have applied for and met the entry requirements for a PhD program at Griffith University
-
Hold a relevant Bachelor (Honours) or Master’s degree with a significant research component
-
Have secured an industry partner or be the preferred candidate for a listed industry project
-
Be committed to spending a minimum of 60 days working directly with the industry partner (remotely or in person)
-
Be enrolled full-time (exceptions for part-time and remote students may be considered depending on the project)

Meet any additional academic qualifications outlined in the individual project offering
Selection Criteria
The selection process will be merit-based, with key criteria including:

Academic performance in your previous degree (preferably Honours First Class or equivalent)

Quality and relevance of your research proposal

Evidence of research experience, publications, or industry-relevant achievements
-
Alignment of your background with the industry project’s goals
-
Recommendations and references from academic or professional referees
-
Capacity and motivation to collaborate effectively with both university and industry supervisors
How to Apply
There are two ways to apply for this scholarship:

Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI).

If selected as the preferred candidate, you’ll receive instructions to formally apply for the program and scholarship.

Bring your own industry partner:

If you already have an employer or industry organisation interested in partnering with Griffith, find a supervisor via Griffith Experts.

Work with them to co-develop a project and submit a joint application for the Industry PhD Scheme.
