Fully Funded Flinders University Research Scholarships (FURS) 2025

Flinders University Research Scholarships (FURS) are prestigious opportunities offered to support outstanding postgraduate students in Australia and internationally. These scholarships aim to encourage high-achieving students with strong research potential to pursue full-time Masters or Doctorate by research degrees at Flinders University.

The scholarships are open to domestic and international students who meet the eligibility criteria and wish to contribute to high-quality research across a wide range of fields.

 Scholarship Overview

  • Scholarship type: Full-time research scholarship

  • Stipend value: $35,010 per year (tax-free, 2025 full-time rate, indexed annually)

  • Other supports:

    • RTP Fee Offset for Australian, New Zealand citizens, or Australian permanent residents (covers tuition fees for up to four years)

    • Limited fee waiver scholarships may be available for international students

  • Payment term: Paid fortnightly

  • Health insurance: International students are required to have OSHC if applicable

  • Study Level: Masters/PhD by Research

  • Study Course: Open to all research areas

  • Citizen type: Domestic and International students (see eligibility for specifics)

  • Number of positions: Not specified

  • Duration: Up to 3.5 years for Doctorate; up to 2 years for Masters

Eligibility Criteria 

Applicants must:

  • Be Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens, or hold Australian Permanent Residency; or

  • Be international students who completed an honours or equivalent qualification at an Australian university within the last three years;

  • Have completed at least four years of tertiary education at a high level of achievement (Honours 1 or high 2A, or equivalent);

  • Be enrolling as full-time students in a Masters by research or Doctorate by research program;

  • Have had their candidature accepted in the area of intended research.

Eligible course or study program: Any research program offered at Flinders University

Selection Criteria 

The HDR Scholarships Committee selects recipients based on:

  • Academic merit and research potential

  • Ranking according to the University HDR Ranking Guidelines

  • Priority is given to students undertaking a higher degree by research for the first time

  • Achievements in previous studies and relevant research experience

How to apply

  • Students completing Honours in the year of application are eligible; predicted Honors scores will be used for initial ranking.

  • Applications are submitted through the Flinders University Student System:

    • Current or prospective HDR students: Go to the My Scholarships tab

    • New applicants: Go to the My Application tab and indicate you are applying for a scholarship

  • The scholarship is listed as Higher Degree Research Scholarship Main Round - Grouping Reward

  • One application covers FURS, AGRTPS, and other scholarships available during the round.
