About the Position

The Dennis McDermott Research Scholarships are awarded to Indigenous students of exceptional research promise to undertake a higher degree by research at La Trobe University. The scholarship was established to celebrate the life of Professor Dennis McDermott, La Trobe’s inaugural Pro Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous).

Overview

The scholarship consists of a special top-up scholarship of $10,000 per annum awarded in conjunction with a Research Training Program Scholarship with a stipend value of $34,000 per annum (2024 rate).

Scholarship Stipend Value: $44,000 per annum (comprising $34,000 RTP Stipend and $10,000 top-up stipend.
Degree Program: Masters by research or doctoral research degree
Available in: Albury-Wodonga Campus, Bendigo Campus, Melbourne Campus, Mildura Campus, Shepparton Campus
Host: La Trobe University
Citizen type: Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident
Award Duration:Up to three and a half (3.5) years for a doctoral degree or 22 months for a Masters by research degree
Application Periods: 15/11/2022 to 31/12/2024

Eligibility Criteria

Meet the entrance requirements for the proposed course
Not receiving another scholarship greater than 75 per cent of the stipend rate for the same purpose
Be an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident
Be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander origin
Prioritization will be given to candidates who:
Will be undertaking their research at a La Trobe University campus
Have completed a Masters by Research or other significant body of research
Have attained the equivalent of a first-class honours degree at an Australian university or equivalent from a recognised overseas university
